Bylaws of the Key Club of Barbara Goleman High School

Article I. Name
Section 1. The name of this organization shall be the Key Club of Barbara Goleman Senior High School.
Article II. Sponsorship
Section 1. Its form of organization, its ideals, and its purposes shall be similar to those of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Miami Lakes, Florida.
Section 2. It shall be sponsored by, but not be part of, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Miami Lakes, Florida.
Article III. Objectives and Activities
Section 1. The objectives of the Key Club shall be the following:

To develop initiative and leadership

To provide experience in living and working together

To serve the school and community

To cooperate with the school principal

To prepare for useful citizenship

To accept and promote the following ideas:

To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than the material values of life

To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships

To promote the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and social contracts
-
To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship
-
To provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render unselfish service, and to build better communities
-
To cooperate in creating and maintaining the sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will
Section 2. The activities of the Key Club shall be in accord with its Objects. They should include those suggested by Key Club International, plus such additional activities as might be adopted by the Key Club and approved by the school principal.
Article IV. Motto
Section 1. The motto of the Key Club shall be “Caring – Our Way of Life.”
Article V. Membership
Section 1. Membership shall be limited to high school students as apportioned from the senior, junior, sophomore, and freshman classes by the Board of Directors, who possess the qualifications prescribed by Article 6, Section 1 of the Constitution of the Key Club International.
Section 2. Those scholastically qualified students, as prescribed in Section 1 of this article, of their respective classes interested in service, with good character and leadership ability, and so certified by the principal, shall be eligible for membership.
Section 3. Subject to review and approval by the principal, the Board of Directors shall have the power to suspend a member for non-payment of dues, for non-attendance at meetings without a valid excuse, for conduct unbecoming a member, for lack of participation in projects, or for ceasing to meet the scholastic requirements of the school.
Section 4. Members to replace those graduating, or otherwise leaving the club, shall be selected as established by the school.
Section 5. Members must average ten (10) hours per month, with a majority (50% + 1) of the hours being key club hours.
Article VI. Officers
Section 1. Officers shall be the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, editor, and webmaster. They shall serve for one year or until their successors are elected and qualify, unless they are removed from the position.
Section 2. Each officer shall be a member in good standing. If an officer is not in good standing, he/she will be removed from the position and it will be the duty of the Board of Directors to appoint a new officer to fulfill said position for that club year.
Section 3. There shall be a Board of Directors, composed of the above officers, assistants for the above officers, as well as one class director to be appointed from each class.
Section 4. The duties of the officers should be outlined in the Key Club Manual and Kiwanis Sponsored Youth Club Materials on Key Clubs: KC #6 Duties of Club Officers.
Section 5. The Board of Directors shall approve the budget, approve all bills, take counsel with committees, discipline members, and perform such other duties as shall be referred to it by the club, in compliance with these Bylaws, and the requirements of Key Club International.
Section 6. All action by the club and the Board of Directors shall be subject to the approval of the principal and the Kiwanis Club. The Board of Directors shall meet at least once monthly at a time and place selected by the Board.
Section 7. Any general member may recommend the removal of a club officer to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall hold a meeting at which the officer in question shall be heard. If approved, the recommendation shall be presented to the club and voted on by 2/3 vote of the quorum. In the event any officer should be removed from office, the officer shall be notified in writing by the secretary or secretary/treasurer.
Section 8. The Faculty and Kiwanis Advisor shall serve as ex-officio members of the club Board of Directors, retaining all rights of that membership without the right to vote.
Article VII. Election of Officers
Section 1. Election of new officers shall take place at a meeting in February January; the new elected officers shall take office after District Convention. New officers shall be required to serve with the outgoing Board until the end of May.
Section 2. The appointing of the sophomore, junior, and senior class director shall be held at the first meeting following the District Educational and Leadership Conference. The appointing of the freshman class director shall be held by October 15th of each year.
Section 3. All officers who are members in good standing shall be eligible for re-election. All class directors who are members in good standing shall be eligible for re-appointment.
Section 4. Members who have any money owed to the club, including past financial obligations, are not eligible for running for office or class director positions.
Section 5. Members must be active from the beginning of their membership, in order to run for office.
Section 6. Members must have over 70 hours of community service hours in order to run for office.
Article VIII. Meetings
Section 1. The club shall hold regular weekly meetings on Wednesdays before and after school in the sponsor’s room.
Section 2. The officer meetings will take place every Wednesday after the club meeting; if not possible, it must be rescheduled before the next club meeting. Only Board Members are qualified to attend officer meetings.
Section 3. There will be a Board of Directors meeting during the third week of every month, if not possible, it must be rescheduled before end of the month. All members may attend this meeting.
Article IX. Dues
Section 1. Annual dues shall be $20.00 per member, which is the sum of the amount specified for district dues in the District By-laws, the amount specified for International dues in the International By-laws, and the remaining amount for individual club dues.
Article X. Amendments
Section 1. Amendments to these by-laws shall be adopted by the two-third vote of the members present at any regular meeting held one week or more after a meeting at which the proposed amendment, or amendments, were read, or after giving written notice thereof to each member one week prior to the action on such amendment or amendments.
Section 2. These by-laws and all amendments or additions thereto shall not become effective until they have been approved by the high school principal and by Key Club International.
Section 3. Senior members who have attended two (2) previous District Educational and Leadership Conventions (DCON) will have the costs for their final DCON paid in full through the club funds
Section 4. No member can be placed on fundraising probation if two (2) or more fundraisers have occurred in the same month
Section 5. The officer in charge of a project must upload the project report within 72 hours of the project or will be subject to consequences – the hours the officer had earned will be reduced to half after 72 hours since the project took place. The officer will not receive any of their hours after a week had passed since, and further consequences may be taken upon their refusal to submit the report before the next Board of Directors meeting.
